Attorneys representing a private Christian school in Ventura, California say district board members are attempting to shut down the school for religious reasons. The school is now fighting a property battle that comes after the district tried to get the school to agree to hire teachers who don't share their Christian beliefs.

The family of a Port Hueneme man who died two weeks after a fight broke out during an adult soccer league match in Oxnard this month is asking witnesses to come forward.

Sanchez was gravely injured during a melee that broke out during a game on July 10 at Oxnard High School, according to the Oxnard Police Department. He was taken to Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition. On Monday, he died from his injuries.

Relatives of Misael Sanchez, 29, spoke during a press conference Thursday morning at the family's Ventura law firm.

Sanchez — called "Misa" by friends — was the first in his family to attend a university. He was a biomedical scientist who had earned a master's degree from Cal State Northridge and was working on his doctorate, relatives said.

“He had lots of dreams and a life ahead of him,” his father, Guadalupe Sanchez, said in Spanish. “The death of my son wasn’t an accident. We wish for justice.”

The lead investigator in a 2014 explosion at the Santa Clara Waste Water Co. plant canceled a presentation Tuesday night after receiving a threatening letter from the owners who fear it might jeopardize the reopening of the facility.

Ostertag, 24, is accused of fatally stabbing 16-year-old Daniel Morales in the heart during a fight outside a Camarillo Taco Bell around lunchtime on Aug. 31, 2015. He is also accused of dissuading a witness, Morales' friend, from reporting the incident to police. Ostertag also faces a special allegation he personally used a weapon during the alleged murder.

On November 11th, 2021, VPD’s Special Victim’s Unit received a referral from Children and Family Services regarding a sexual abuse allegation of a 14-year-old girl. The victim is now 21 years old.

Detectives began an investigation into the allegation of sexual abuse of a child by the suspect who was a youth pastor at The River Community Church in Ventura.

Five women have accused Oxnard's former fire marshal of sexual harassment in a lawsuit filed in Ventura County Superior Court.

The unnamed women are current and former fire department employees. They claim they were subject to "unwelcome, pervasive sexual advances" by Martinez. The alleged behavior included defamation, stalking and physical assaults.
