Investigator cancels talk on Santa Clara waste plant probe after threat of litigation

The lead investigator in a 2014 explosion at the Santa Clara Waste Water Co. plant canceled a presentation Tuesday night after receiving a threatening letter from the owners who fear it might jeopardize the reopening of the facility.

An attorney for the owners, C3 Capital Partners of Kansas City, Missouri, warned the retired Ventura County District Attorney's investigator Jeff Barry that he should be "extremely careful" about what he disclosed now that he is a private citizen.

On Tuesday, Nov. 2, many of those seated in the full house at the Regency Santa Paula 7 movie theater gasped audibly when attorney Ron Bamieh revealed that the presentation scheduled that night would not take place due to his client being threatened with a lawsuit by a Missouri based law firm.

“Jeff got a letter…threatening him with a lawsuit should he talk about his experience investigating the case…He was fully intending to speak and make a presentation about the truth behind the investigation,” said Bamieh standing at the wooden lectern in front of a bare white screen. “I’ve advised Jeff not to speak.”

On November 11th, 2021, VPD’s Special Victim’s Unit received a referral from Children and Family Services regarding a sexual abuse allegation of a 14-year-old girl. The victim is now 21 years old.

Detectives began an investigation into the allegation of sexual abuse of a child by the suspect who was a youth pastor at The River Community Church in Ventura.

Former Oxnard fire marshal accused of sexual harassment

Five women have accused Oxnard's former fire marshal of sexual harassment in a lawsuit filed in Ventura County Superior Court.

The unnamed women are current and former fire department employees. They claim they were subject to "unwelcome, pervasive sexual advances" by Martinez. The alleged behavior included defamation, stalking and physical assaults.
