The family of a Port Hueneme man who died two weeks after a fight broke out during an adult soccer league match in Oxnard this month is asking witnesses to come forward.

Sanchez was gravely injured during a melee that broke out during a game on July 10 at Oxnard High School, according to the Oxnard Police Department. He was taken to Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition. On Monday, he died from his injuries.

Relatives of Misael Sanchez, 29, spoke during a press conference Thursday morning at the family's Ventura law firm.

Sanchez — called "Misa" by friends — was the first in his family to attend a university. He was a biomedical scientist who had earned a master's degree from Cal State Northridge and was working on his doctorate, relatives said.

“He had lots of dreams and a life ahead of him,” his father, Guadalupe Sanchez, said in Spanish. “The death of my son wasn’t an accident. We wish for justice.”

Investigator cancels talk on Santa Clara waste plant probe after threat of litigation

The lead investigator in a 2014 explosion at the Santa Clara Waste Water Co. plant canceled a presentation Tuesday night after receiving a threatening letter from the owners who fear it might jeopardize the reopening of the facility.

An attorney for the owners, C3 Capital Partners of Kansas City, Missouri, warned the retired Ventura County District Attorney's investigator Jeff Barry that he should be "extremely careful" about what he disclosed now that he is a private citizen.

Detectives began an investigation into the allegation of sexual abuse of a child by the suspect who was a youth pastor at The River Community Church in Ventura.

Five women have accused Oxnard's former fire marshal of sexual harassment in a lawsuit filed in Ventura County Superior Court.

The unnamed women are current and former fire department employees. They claim they were subject to "unwelcome, pervasive sexual advances" by Martinez. The alleged behavior included defamation, stalking and physical assaults.
