The Accident

According to CBS channel 12, three people were killed, and two more were injured in a Santa Barbara car accident earlier this summer. The accident happened just before 6 AM when two vehicles, a sedan carrying three people and a pickup truck carrying two, collided with one another on Highway 1. The sedan was traveling southbound when it drifted into the northbound lane of oncoming traffic. The northbound lanes of Highway 1 were closed in the aftermath of the accident. The ultimate cause of the accident is not known, but alcohol or drugs are not believed to have played a role.

The Injuries and Fatalities

All three occupants of the sedan were killed in the course of the accident – while both occupants of the pickup suffered injuries that required transportation to a local hospital by ambulance. It’s important to note that even when the injuries associated with a car accident are relatively minor, they can have long-lasting physical, financial, and emotional consequences. And more serious injuries can be life-altering or fatal.

Injuries Commonly Associated with Traffic Accidents

Traffic accidents are some of the most dangerous accidents out there, and while no two are exactly alike, there are several types of injuries that are most often associated with these crashes.

Traumatic Brain Injuries

Because they affect the brain, which is the source of reason, Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) are closely associated with profound emotional consequences that are often lifelong concerns. TBIs are both extremely unpredictable and extremely serious.

Broken Bones

A broken bone is an immensely painful injury that can lead to permanent health concerns, including chronic pain. The more complicated the break, the more health risks involved.

Spinal Cord Injuries

An injury anywhere on the spinal cord can seriously limit one’s range of motion, and these injuries are closely associated with serious pain. When the spinal cord is severed or seriously damaged, it means permanent paralysis.

Soft Tissue Injuries

Soft tissue injuries can take many forms, including sprains and whiplash. These injuries tend to be exceptionally painful and can be challenging to effectively treat. For example, whiplash injuries can lead to chronic pain and a serious decrease in range of motion.

Burns and Cuts

Serious burns and cuts are also common in car accidents, and they are highly susceptible to both infection and unsightly scarring. Burns often require ongoing care in response to secondary health concerns.
